Our founders strategically grounded their collections within American history and culture, drawing inspiration from the rich tapestry of local heritage. Towson Watches serve as a conjunction of today's local talent with the industrial achievements of our past, restoring the manufacturing and artisanal innovation that has occurred here in our backyard. This connection to our region is evident across our collections, serving as a cornerstone of our brand identity.
The history and inspiration drawn from the Chesapeake Region acted as a catalyst for the development of Towson Watch Company, with the Pride II serving as a prime example of this foundational connection. The Pride II celebrates the brand's roots, mirroring the shape of the TWC Shield logo and paying homage to the iconic Pride of Baltimore Schooner. Built in 1977 in Baltimore, MD, the Pride of Baltimore Schooner represented America's official sailing ambassador and continues to sail the harbor today. The triangular stainless steel case of the Pride II timepiece, along with the logo, signifies the nautical background of TWC's founders, Hartwig Balke and George Thomas.
For Balke and Thomas, sailing the Chesapeake Bay nurtured their connection to the region's history and inspired the development of their company. Their desire to shine a light on the once glorified industrial port cities like Baltimore fueled their entrepreneurial spirit. The Chesapeake Region resonated with them, reminiscent of the hard-working culture they knew from home in Europe. This setting provided them with the opportunity to build something special from the ground up.
The Pride II timepiece marked a significant milestone for Towson Watch Company, solidifying the TWC shield as its official logo. Designed by Balke and his collaborator, Patrick Ayoub, this timepiece allowed them to explore their capabilities as horologists and push the boundaries of symmetrical design. The five-radius triangle of the Pride II, combined with the case's perfect encapsulation of the automatic movement, represents a groundbreaking innovation in American horology—a testament to TWC's commitment to honoring local heritage while pushing the boundaries of craftsmanship.
